Not only MSCs are used for the treatment, recently another type of stem cell therapy has been under observation, and scientists are investigating for MS. The process is called hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT). Again, the results favor being an ideal treatment for this disease.

This therapy aims to eliminate harmful immune cells causing damage and afterward replace them with healthy immune cells by resetting the immune system by using chemotherapy that can reconstitute the immune system.

This method of treating MS is being explored in clinical trials. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a call for participants in a new trial was sent out in May 2021.
